Education Week

"Building our Future by Learning Together," was the theme for Education week. It was a busy week full of activities. On Monday, the students worked with their buddies and discussed what their goals will be this year and how it will help them in the future. On Tuesday, Trina Markusson read her book, "Good Morning Sunshine," and practiced mindfulness strategies with the students. On Thursday, we showed our appreciation for the bus drivers by gathering in the hall and singing a song. On Friday, the students participated in a book swap.

Mindfulness

Throughout the month of October we have been incorporating mindfulness in the classroom. We started off by reading, "Good Morning Sunshine," by Trina Markusson. Then, we created mindfulness jars and chose our mindfulness critters to help with belly breathing. On October 17th, we were lucky enough to have Trina Markusson visit the school where she provided us new strategies on how mindfulness can be used throughout the school day and at home. We will continue integrating mindfulness throughout the day and we will be learning new mindfulness strategies throughout the year.

Haunted House Descriptive Writing

Last week, we read a variety different fiction stories about haunted houses. Then, we used our five senses to describe how we would feel if we went into a haunted house.

All About Apples

We completed our mini unit on apples. Throughout this unit we learned a variety of things!

We practiced sequencing and following directions by making apple crisp.

We learned all about Johnny Appleseed & the life cycle of an apple

We explored using our senses by tasting four different types of apples.

Mystery Reader

On October 13th, we had our first Mystery Reader of the year! The grade 1's and 2's were very excited to have Havyn's grandma read to them.

Pumpkin Expressions

In art, we made pumpkin expressions. The grade 1's learned about opposites and created a pumpkin poem and the grade 2's learned about adjectives for their pumpkin writing.
