K/1/2 Goes Buggy!

On Monday, we reviewed the life cycle of a butterfly. Then, in groups, the students had to read an article about butterflies and find 4 interesting facts. After, they had to sort  facts from the article into 3 categories: attributes, actions, environment.

On Wednesday, we made butterflies out of tissue paper and glue!

On Thursday, we learned about bees! First, we read a nonfiction book about bees. Then, we learned how bees make honey and how they are important pollinators. We did an experiment to show how the pollination process works. Each group had a paper bag (flower) filled with Cheetos. Everyone enjoyed their cheetos...but they were not allowed to lick their fingers! After everyone gathered lots of pollen on their legs (cheeto dust on their fingers) they went around and dropped pollen on all the other flowers. We saw that each flower had pollen (Cheeto dust) left on it.

On Friday we discussed the jobs of each bee (worker, queen, drone). Then we compared the bee life cycle to a butterfly life cycle. We also compared a bees body to a butterfly's body.
