Today, we finished our last social studies unit of the year, "All About Canada." This week the students learned that the earth is round and has different parts (land and water). We reviewed our town, our province and where Canada is on the globe.

On Monday, we reviewed that Canada is a country and has many different parts. We learned that Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. We looked at Google Earth and saw that there are "borders" that outline all the different provinces.
*Note*
On Thursday, we learned that each province/territory has a capital city! The capital city of Saskatchewan is Regina! After we discussed the symbols of Canada (maple leaf and the beaver).

All About Canada
This week in Social Studies we started our last unit of the year...All About Canada. Throughout this unit we will be learning about our town (Kennedy), our province (Saskatchewan), and all of the provinces/territories in Canada.
On Tuesday, we learned about our town, Kennedy. First we looked at a map of Saskatchewan and found Kennedy, then we discussed that a town is a place where many people live near each other. We brainstormed all the physical features that are in and around Kennedy, then we brainstormed all the things we can see in Kennedy (store, stop signs, houses, parks).
On Thursday we reviewed what a town and city are. Then we talked about the area surrounding Kennedy. We looked on a map and noticed that there are various lakes and prairies near Kennedy. We noticed that there are a few towns near Kennedy such as, Kenosee, Kipling and Whitewood. We used google maps to travel from one town to another.
On Friday, we learned all about Saskatchewan. We reviewed that Canada is a country and is very big...Because it is so large, there are different areas. We learned that these different areas are called provinces and territories. We learned that each province has a flag and symbols. The Saskatchewan flag is green and gold. The green represents the northern forests and the gold represents the southern grain fields. Our provincial flower is a red lily and our provincial bird is a sharp tailed grouse.
