Matter Experiments
Last week, we made Oobleck. We discovered that it is a liquid and a solid! We also made rootbeer floats to represent the three states of matter.

The Five Senses & Matter
Throughout the month of April the grade 1's completed a unit on the five senses and the grade 2's completed a unit on the three states of matter.
We made ice cream and watched it turned from a liquid into a solid! The grade 1's used their 5 senses to explore the ice cream.
We explored why some materials absorb and some don't by completing an experiment.
In art, we learned that you can mix matter to create new colours!
The grade 1's explored their sense of hearing by listening to different sounds and guessing what they think they heard.
The grade 1's and 2's made oobleck and explored that some types of matter can be a liquid and a solid. The grade 1's used their sense of touch to explore oobleck!
For Earth Day, we used recycled materials to create boats. We then discussed what causes something to float and what causes something to sink.
To finish our matter/senses unit we made root beer floats! We noticed that root beer is a liquid and ice cream is a solid and together they created bubbles which is a gas. We connected this to our Writer's Workshop unit on sequencing and how-to writing.
