Happy Halloween!

On October 31st, we had a Halloween Celebration in the afternoon. For this celebration we had a school parade, ate treats and had a variety of Halloween themed centers! 

Pumpkin Unit

Throughout the last two weeks of October we learned all about pumpkins. Throughout this unit we explored pumpkins using our senses, the life cycle of a pumpkin, we taste tested pumpkin pie and used our five senses to describe, measured pumpkins, carved pumpkins and estimated pumpkin seeds. 

Apple Unit

We completed our mini unit on apples. Throughout this unit we learned a variety of things!

We practiced sequencing and following directions by making apple crisp. 

We learned all about Johnny Appleseed & the life cycle of an apple.

We explored our five senses and looked at a variety of apples. We also learned about data analysis and how to make a graph.

We completed a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activity. The students had to pretend they were trapped on an island with nothing but apples and toothpicks. They had to construct a floating raft to help them sail home. We learned four new vocabulary words:

1. Raft: a floating platform made of materials that are fastened together.
2. Buoyant: Able to float or rise in a liquid.
3. Balance: Even distribution of weight.
4. Drift: To be carried slowly by a current of air or water.
