Author Study: Robert Munsch

This week, we read our second Robert Munsch story, "Mmm, Cookies." We noticed that Robert Munsch used alot of literacy devices in this story such as Onomatopoeia and Repetition. 

After we were done reading the story we made chocolate chip cookies. They turned out great! 

Then, the grade 1/2's wrote what they put in their dream cookie and the kindergartens did a craft! 

On Tuesday, we read "The Sandcastle Contest." 

Then, we discussed how we would build a winning sandcastle. 

, 

Next, we designed a sandcastle. 

After we designed our castles, we made castles out of clay! (Since the sand outside is covered in snow!)

Healthy Body

This week in health, we focused on the stomach, intestines and the kidneys! We watched a few brainpop videos and read some non-fiction stories about the human body. 

On Wednesday and Thursday we learned about the skeleton, muscles and skin.

Next week, we will begin learning about foods and activities that keep us healthy!

Addition and Subtraction

Today the grade ones had to figure out the following problem:

There are 10 dinosaurs. Some are yellow and some are green. There are 2 more yellow dinosaurs than green. How many yellow dinosaurs are there? The students used manipulatives, ten frames and number lines to help them figure out the answer. The grade twos did the same problem but with 16 dinosaurs! 

Addition and Subtraction

Last week we started our addition and subtraction unit. This week we are focusing on adding doubles. 

The students used counters to help them come up with double facts.
