Brownie Points

The students filled up their brownie point chart 3 times! They were rewarded with a pizza and sundae party! We had a blast and the pizza's tasted great!

Cinderella

Our last fairy tale that we focused on was Cinderella. First we read the classic version, then our critter, "Elements Elephant," helped us fill in the story map.

Then our critter, "Spike the Summarizer," helped us summarize the story.

After, we discussed what it would be like to have a fairy godmother. We brainstormed ideas on what we would ask our fairy godmother for. The students came up with many great ideas!

We also read the fractured version, "Cinder-elly." We compared each story using our critter, "CC Cow."

My slipper won't fall off Cinderellas foot because....

Little Red Riding Hood

On Friday we read the classic version of, "Little Red Riding Hood." After our critter, "Elements Elephant," helped us fill in a story map.

Then our critter, "Purpose Pig," helped us identify the author's purpose.

After that the students used adjectives to create a missing poster.

We then created maps to show how Red Riding Hood got to Granny's house.

The Three Little Pigs

The past few days we have been focusing on the fairy tale, "The Three Little Pigs." First we read the classic version by James Marshall. After our critter, "Elements Elephant," helped us fill in a story map.

Then our critter, "Spike the Summarizer," helped us summarize the main events in the story. We also read "The Three Little Wolves and The Big Bad Pig." We compared the endings of each story.

After that the students created a motivational poster to show what the moral in the story was. The class decided the moral/lesson is hard work pays off. They all agreed that the 3rd pig worked the hardest to create a stable house.

We then read a fractured version of the story called, "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs." Our critter "C.C Cow," helped us compare and contrast the two stories.

From there we learned about telling a story from a different point of view. How does a characters point of view change a story?

To finish our mini unit on "The Three Little Pigs," the students brainstormed what materials they would use to build a house, if they were one of the pigs.

What structure was the sturdiest?
