Skip Counting & Even & Odds

In math, we have been focusing on skip counting.

We did math centers to help us learn how to skip count & organize a 100 chart.

At the first station, the students worked in pairs to create 100 chart puzzles by cutting up a 100 chart. Then, they challenged their partner to put the puzzle back together as a 100 chart.

At second station the students played, "What's My Pattern?" At this station one child had to shade/cover up 6 numbers on a 100 chart to show a number pattern such as 6, 16, 26, 36, 46 and 56. Then, they read their shaded numbers aloud to their partner. The partner had to try and guess the counting pattern.

At station 3 the students played "Make It Right." At this station, one student covered their eyes while their partner placed counters on a 100 chart to create a counting pattern with one error. The child with their eyes covered had  to find the error and correct it.

We have also been learning about even & odd numbers. First, we read "Even Steven and Odd Todd," by Kathryn Cristaldi. Then, we made up a cheer to help us remember what numbers are even (2, 4, 6, 8 being even is just great!) and what numbers are odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 being odd is just fine). We learned that even numbers always have a buddy & share. After, each group was given a pack of skittles. They had to divide their skittles into  groups to try and figure out if they had an even or an odd number. Then, they added the amount of skittles they had to chart paper. Of course at the end I made sure everyone had an even amount of skittles so it was fair! :)
