We learned about all the different machines/tractors that farmers need in order to grow a healthy crop. The students created their own "imaginary" tractors that had special characteristics. For example some of the tractors could fly, some could turn invisible and some spin upside down.
We learned all about cows, pigs, chickens and sheep! In our cow booklets we wrote about what cows give us, what cows can do, where cows live and what cows look like. We did the same thing with our pigs, then we compared the two animals by using a Venn Diagram. We also created a "mud" poem and used adjectives to describe what mud is like! After that we learned about chickens, what they give us and why they are important.
During "The Daily Five," students worked with their "Work on Writing" groups to complete a farm animal research booklet. The first group learned about horses, the second group learned about goats and the third group learned about sheep.
The students then shared their learning with the rest of the class!
Matching female, male and baby farm animals.
Matching animal homes and animal sounds.
After learning about many different types of farm animals...we took a vote to decide on our favorite one. Horses won!
To end our Farming Unit we made "homemade" butter and bread! It turned out great!
Mixing the heavy cream to make butter.
Finished product!
Enjoying the homemade bread and butter. Yum!
